Interview with Sandradee from St. Frock

What is the inspiration for your collection?

St. Frock is all about bringing fun and fresh fashion to women. We are very on-trend and affordable, and for the upcoming summer we are loving a number of trends - from bright, bold colour blocking for the fearless as well as a softer, more feminine vibe with floaty florals, pastel colours and lace.

What colour palette do think works best for summer 2011/12?

Anything bright is what’s hot this summer! Whether you wear it as solid block colours or in the form of crazy prints, the St. Frock girls are rocking this colour palette like you wouldn’t believe.

What's your favourite piece from your current collection and why?

Our Wally Singlet reminds me of the song ‘Hotel California’ written by The Eagles. With a vivid sunset setting complete with palm trees, this singlet looks perfect with some denim shorts. And it is reversible so you can have the bright oranges and yellows turns up to high voltage or switch it around for a subtler look.

Describe the first thing you ever designed

It was a skirt for my first proper date when I was 15 that my sister and I made which had over 15 seams in it because we kept stuffing up the fit. I think back now and thank goodness for the print on it or you would have seen our terrible sewing job.

What got you interested in fashion?

My Mum sewed all our dresses till I was about 13 years old. Whenever we had a special occasion coming up she used to take me to Lincraft and leave me while she did shopping to poor over all the pattern books till I found something I loved and then she would buy the pattern and make it for me.

What has been the greatest challenge for you so far?

Setting up our boutique in Sydney’s Pyrmont was definitely a major obstacle that really challenged me! Within the past year I have taken on more staff – including a store manager – and have really started to establish St. Frock as an awesome fashion destination.

What is your first fashion memory?

It is sitting at the feet of my mother while she sewed on her sewing machine.

How do you come across the textiles you use?

We source our textiles locally and internationally - we grab anything that tickles our fancy!

Are their any celebrities/artists/icons that you take inspiration from when designing?

My brain is always on 200% so absolutely everything and anything I see, hear, touch, taste and smell is an inspiration. The only way to love life is to appreciate everything that is happening around you and I believe that fashion is the perfect way to do this.

Now the question on everyone's lips... Where can we buy designs?

St. Frock are everywhere! If you can’t make it down to our little boutique at 190 Harris St. Pyrmont then you can shop at our online stores, both on Facebook www.facebook.com/stfrock and at www.stfrock.com as well as finding us at a number of Sydney's coolest Markets and fashion events weekly.
