Future Music Festival starts off this weekend in Sydney and we all know that music festivals these days are as much about the fashion as it is about the music. So you’ve got to look good to show off your good sense of style as well as being prepared if it rains, and let’s face it, the weather’s not looking good for Future goers this weekend. So here are some tips that I thought might help.
1. Bring sunnies. Rain, hail or shine, you’re going to want these bad boys in whatever state you end up in. The original Wayfarers by Ray Ban (www.ray-ban.com/australia) are hot right now, and if they’re too expensive for you, there are plenty of cheaper versions available wherever you go.
2. In case of rain, bring ponchos. Don’t be afraid you’ll look silly in them, because you’ll regret it when it starts pissing bucket loads. Girls, aim for the child size ponchos from the $2 shop. They look less like garbage bags.
3. Boots, boots, boots. No thongs, especially when it might rain. What I really love right now are the man-style lace up boots. (These look good paired with a cute dress to bring an edge to femininity.) But nothing beats a good pair of black gumboots if you’re planning on jumping into puddles and frolicking through the grass. But if you don’t like the length of gumboots, try cutting them until you get the height you want.
4. What’s hot right now is the vintage geometric patterned or floral patterned dress or shirt. I love, love, love this. But if you don’t like to look too girly, try wearing the aforementioned man-style boots to tune the girliness down a notch.
5. The crop tops are back this year, but with a looser cut. Team these up with a cute pair of high waisted shorts. Please leave the full bare midriff back in the 90’s. American Apparel has a nice selection of cheap loose cut crop tanks and tops. Head to www.store.americanapparel.com.au/women.html
6. Lastly, when in doubt choose black. If you can’t decide what to wear, you can never go wrong with black. Black dresses, black shirts, black singlets, black whatever. I like to team up my black tops with a light-coloured denim. Ripped, holed and frayed denim is looking great these days (as long as you still look decent and not like a hobo or a prostitute, we don’t want that).
Have fun my fellow fashionistas!
