Fashion photography was once carefully shot at bespoke studios, but with the proliferation of digital cameras in the 21st century, street style photography has become de rigueur. With the emergence of social media and technological advances, under-the-radar photographers now produce their works in style blogs – offering instant media to the streetwise audience. Honest and controversial viewpoints from independent bloggers are now just a click away. So influential, celebrity bloggers such as Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist score front-row seats at runway shows, rubbing shoulders with the likes of fashion editors and movie stars.
Meanwhile, the carefully controlled atmosphere of the studio remains the photographer’s best chance of capturing ‘The Look’ – the most challenging and intriguing concept when creating a fashion portrait. Sheer beauty and edgy designs may set the scene but it’s the intangible elements that transforms a photographic shoot from unique to unforgettable.
During this special weekend, visitors can experience all facets of fashion and photography – from the stylised settings of a studio shoot to the spur-of-the-moment immediacy of a street-style fashion blog. There are talks to enlighten, hands-on experiences and more events to attend as you participate in this celebration of Fashion in Action.
